Art in the Square Will Premiere New Emerging Artist Exhibition
A New Emerging Artist exhibition will premier at Southlakes’ 2010 Art in the Square. Like other Nationally ranked art shows, Art in the Square in connection with the Apex Arts League, have added an emerging artists exhibition. From a pool of 60 local applicants and through an intensive selection process the selection committee found 4 talented artists to assist and showcase at this year’s art fair.
Being selected for this honor includes a mentoring program through the Apex Arts League. The artists are given the opportunity to learn about making their craft a sustainable business. Through training they learn about outdoor setup, support, effective display, marketing and even how to successfully apply to other art shows. These talented artists are:
Melissa Ayr: She is an abstract painter that paints with energy, emotion and color and refuses to conform to the standard art rules. She uses many mediums from oils to acrylics, to inks, to chalks, to watercolors, each painting is an original and inspired by the energy of the moment and has a story. “I am here to create art. I am here to touch others with art. I am thankful to be alive and I paint with passion.” http://www.melissaart.com
Randy Rancier: He is a student of modern photography with an interest in Alfred Stieglitz, husband of Georgia O’Keefe. Much of his photo art displayed on his website shows a love for the outdoors, especially the effect cloud formations and the bright whites, have on landscapes. His DUO-TONES pieces (Earth and Sky) show a striking and yet calming play between the blue and white tones. Though his path to photographer started in high school, it wasn’t until he pursued the regular profession of Air Force, Engineering and small business owner that kept him searching for his true passion, Full time Photo Artist. http://www.randyrancier.com
Cathy Crain: She works in numerous media but is now devoting her time exclusively to the fine arts. Concentrating on kiln formed glass and ceramics she works to capture the humor, personality and spirit of animals. On her ranch outside of Ft worth she finds many friendly inspirations to use as she continues to explore color, texture, textiles and primitive art. Her sometime whimsical art has a sense of fun and adventure. A real treat to see. http://crainartstudio.com
Jay Smith: As a student of architecture, he has a passion for both the natural and man-made world. Whether shooting places, people or objects, he strives to capture beauty in the ordinary things. This structured perspective in even seeing the striking beauty in a pair of worn spurs draws the observer in to see what can be and then encourages that observer to search for that same kind of structure and beauty in their everyday lives. His photo art is poignant and breathtaking, even in small subject matter. http://www.jaysmithphotography.com
