The 2008 Fidelity-Southlake Women’s Professional Tennis Tournament is a USTA Pro Circuit event. The tournament, which will offer $10,000 in total prize money, is part of a series of professional events held throughout the United States. Players hoping to develop a professional tennis career start at this level, and work their way up the ranking system by earning points for their results. Each tournament offers players both prize money and circuit points. The points help players move up in the rankings and qualify for larger events.

This tournament is one of only 12 Pro Circuit tournaments held throughout the country during the summer months. Last year’s singles winner, Alexa Glatch, is one of the top juniors in the country and currently one of the USTA’s targeted players for pro development. She lost in the first round of the main draw in the US Open this year.

Women between the ages of 15 to 26 years old will compete in both singles and doubles play. Both professional and amateur players from the United States and around the world will compete. The draw will include collegiate players and top juniors who usually have a world ranking from 300 to 800 in the world. Many current professional players, such as #1 in the world Amelie Mauresmo, Lindsey Davenport, Justine Henin-Hardenne, Maria Sharapova, and Anna Kournikova started their careers at this level.
