Carroll Jazz Band Performs in New York City

For the second time in school history, the Carroll Jazz Band performed at the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition and Festival in New York. The band was one of 15 schools from across the country invited to this year's Essentially Ellington event, May 7-10 at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan.

The annual festival is an education endeavor geared toward high school students who have a passion and talent for jazz music. Accompanied by Jazz Band Director David Lown and Carroll Band Director Ron Behrends, 18 Carroll Jazz Band students attended workshops and participated in one-on-one sessions with famed jazz musician Wynton Marsalis. All schools were graded on a live performance and three bands were selected as winners.

Carroll's Stephen Falkenberg was awarded Outstanding Bass Sound, and the band's brass section was named Outstanding Section.
