Monart School of Art Hosts "A Taste of Art" to Benefit Community Storehouse

December 5th, Monart School of Art will host its first annual art show to benefit Community Storehouse (www.CommunityStorehouse.org), a local nonprofit relief agency that serves children in the community.

“A Taste of Art” will feature original drawings and paintings created by art students of Monart School of Art which will be on display and available for purchase via live auction, prices ranging from $5-$20.

Attendance to the event is free, however, patrons are encouraged to bring donations of Spaghetti Sauce and Pasta in support of helping to keep Community Storehouse’s pantry stocked. Coats will also be accepted as donations.

“A Taste of Art” will be held from 4:00pm-6:30pm, Friday, December 5th at Monart School of Art.

Christmas Event for Children - Santa's Workshop

Come join us for tons of holiday fun! Children will enjoy four hours of games, arts and crafts, and lots of surprises in a well supervised environment. Pizza, juice boxes, and a special treat will be provided. Parents are not required to attend. Children will be supervised in a 1:5 ratio.

This year the Colleyville Woman's Club 24th annual Holiday Home Tour is proud to feature a five outstanding homes located in Colleyville and Southlake. The Home Tour will take place on December 7th, 2008, honoring the club's annual tradition occurring the first Sunday in December. Attendees will be able to view some of the finest homes in the area, appreciating state of the art architectural and interior design, along with many family inspired traditions. Visitors will see these select residences decorated in their finest holiday attire, as well as experience various musical performances showcased at the homes throughout the tour.

Tickets will be available in advance for $20 at numerous Northeast Tarrant County businesses or online at www.c-w-c.org. On tour day tickets will be $25 and sold at each of the homes. Proceeds from the Home Tour benefit the many charities that CWC supports.

Jake’s Loft Holds Charitable Book Signing Event

Bert Jacobs, nationally-known co-founder of the Life is good® brand of clothing and accessories, will appear at Jake’s Loft, a newly opened retail store on at the Shops of Southlake that sells exclusively Life is good products, on Sunday, December 7th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Bert will sign copies of his fundraising book Life is good: Simple Wisdom from Jake and Rocket. 100% of Life is good’s profit from book sales at the event will be donated to the Life is good Kids Foundation, established to help children facing unfair challenges. Book sales in the past year have resulted in company donations of more than $250,000 to the Foundation.

Jake’s Loft, launched in August 2007 in Southlake, TX by local owners Dyane and Lynn Arnn, is an independently owned store, called a Genuine Neighborhood Shoppe, selling nothing but Life is good products. While such stores featuring the popular product line are opening across the country, Jake’s Loft is the first store of its kind in Tarrant County. The store offers a complete line of clothing and accessories, much of it featuring Jake, the happy-go-lucky stick figure with a huge smile who represents the brand, and his dog Rocket.

Schola Cantorum to present “A Gift of Music at Christmas” concert

It’s not Christmas without the beautiful music of Schola Cantorum of Texas. At 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, this breathtaking group of more than 70 singers brings its “A Gift of Music at Christmas” to the area with a free concert at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 185 S. White’s Chapel Blvd.

The Apex Arts League, a local group whose goal is to build a regional visual and performing arts center in Northeast Tarrant County, is sponsoring the concert.

Performances during the evening will include: The Angel to the Shepherd, by Johan Topff; Finnish composer Jaako Mäntyjävi’s contemporary setting of Ave Maria; four carols arranged by Brant Adams – I Wonder As I Wander/What Child Is This?, Here We Come A-Caroling, Away In a Manger, and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing; Molitva, by Russian composer Georgi Sviridov, featuring a rich bass line; Robert Shaw and Alice Parker’s whimsical arrangement of The Twelve Days of Christmas, for chorus and three mixed-voice quartets; and many more.

A carol sing-along for the entire audience, a Schola Cantorum Christmas-concert tradition, will add to the evening’s enjoyment.

Dr. Jerry McCoy will conduct the talented volunteer singers of Schola Cantorum. He is the fourth music director in the 46-year history of Schola Cantorum of Texas. He is Director of Choral Studies and Professor of Music at the University of North Texas, where he conducts the renowned A Capella Choir, North Texas Chamber Choir and the Grand Chorus. Dr. McCoy teaches choral studies and advanced choral techniques and guides an acclaimed choral program that includes more than 300 students. Alan Buratto will accompany on the piano.

In addition, we will be having a train craft project and serving hot chocolate for all of the participants. At the end of the night, we will have a special drawing for a family 4-pack of tickets to the North Pole Express at the Grapevine Depot.
