D Magazine rated Southlake #2 this year in its annual "Rate the Suburbs" article. There were only three Tarrant County Cities that placed in the Top Ten list of cities.

Cities were ranked based on four factors: safety, education, housing values and ambiance. The magazine cited Southlake's ability to place restricitions on home builders (few lots are less than a half an acre; no apartments or condos) are keeping residents investment safe. There were remarks that residents felt that taxes were a bit high and that the schools and sports are a bit too competitve. D Magazine also states that this is a family oriented town, especially those with stay-at-home moms and traveling dads. Southlake is also compared to University Park, where "affluence is evident around every corner".
