Business of the Month - The Little Gym - May 2010

For over 30 years The Little Gym has offered children and their parents a program that is proven to build a child’s physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development. The Little Gym of Southlake continues to provide that program on a level higher than any before. Offering classes, birthday parties and summer camps, the new ownership group of Nick Martinez and Joel Bozarth offer a combined 26 years of hands-on experience and research in early childhood development. When arriving, “Mr. Nick” typically greets kids by name while opening the door and welcoming them in. The environment is safe and clean, combining bright colors, music, and tactile surfaces that stimulate a child’s brain activity and imagination from the second they step in the gym.

Where motor skills, cognitive development, and emotional well-being are concerned, the first few months and years of a child’s life consist of windows of development that systematically begin to close as the child increases in age. In their Parent/Child classes (4 months-3 years) the highly trained staff at The Little Gym helps parents to take advantage of those windows while they are still open and before they close forever. Utilizing a teaching method that is physically based on gymnastics, socially based on respect for the child, cognitively based on years of research, and emotionally based on love and encouragement, children thrive!

Children ages 3-5 years are becoming more independent, so The Little Gym offers Gymnastics, Sports Development, and at 4-years-old, Karate, on their own. These classes help the kids learn to function in a classroom environment, preparing them for their first day of Kindergarten and beyond. The Little Gym “grows” with your child, changing from an environment of exploration and discovery, to one of gymnastics stations, obstacle courses, and age-appropriate instruction.

Grade School Classes (6-12 years) consist of either Gymnastics or Karate. At this age children are much more aware of social surroundings, how their physical skills compare to those of their friends. This is also the age in which a child has reached their motor skill potential. Inside the gym, Nick and Joel ensure that both programs are taught in a non-competitive environment in which children learn beginning -advanced skills in a way that does not promote skill growth at the expense of the child’s emotional well-being. Each student is instructed at his or her skill level and given opportunities to succeed by seeing improvement in themselves, not compared to their peers.

The Little Gym was recently named the #1 Birthday Party destination for children by Parents Magazine. The Little Gym of Southlake makes birthday parties a stress-free event for parents, as they take care of set up and clean up for the parties, provide party invitations and offer convenience and incredible customer service. The staff is well-trained to bring out the very best in children, which helps to make each birthday experience memorable and magical.

In 2008, Joel was named the first ever Little Gym Owner of the Year and in 2009 he was inducted into The Little Gym Hall of Fame. In addition to the Southlake location, Joel also owns and operates The Little Gym, Mockingbird & Abrams in East Dallas, The Little Gym, Preston & Forest in North Dallas, The Little Gym of McKinney and The Little Gym of Plano. Nick and Joel can’t wait to meet you so call today to schedule your child’s free introductory appointment and watch your child soar!
